The Algas Port Restaurant is proving to be very popular in the 18 months
since it opened. In fact, reservations are recommended, which is always
a good sign. Set in the heart of Moraira the design is modern, with soft
lighting which creates a truly great ambience.
Chef Maite, trained in Denia and offers an impressive selection of traditional,
innovative and international dishes. She opens her kitchen every day except
Mondays from 1pm to 4pm for lunch and 7pm to 10.30pm for dinner, but you
can always pop in for a leisurely breakfast of coffee, juice and croissants
from 8am until 11am for only €4 or, for the same price, you can have
beer and 2 dishes of tapas all day. Although you may prefer to wait until
a little nearer lunchtime for the beer! Actually, joking apart, their tapas
and canapés are highly renowned.
At €10 for a starter, main course, dessert or coffee, and a drink
Maite's typical Spanish menu of the day will really satisfy and it's changed
every week so you can try something different each time. Vegetarian options
are also available.
If you prefer to eat à la carte there's also plenty of choice.
Delicate slivers of carpaccio of beef or salmon or why not try a full platter
of Iberian ham and Manchego cheese. Salads; from simple tomato and mozzarella
with a basil vinaigrette or warm goat's cheese with raisins and pine nuts
to their special rustic Algas Port. If it's pasta your after then try the
hearty Bolognese or the prawns with garlic, oil and parsley. Or the Chilli
con carne which should put some colour in your cheeks.
There's not many restaurants who advertise their house specialities as
fried eggs with house potatoes and fried eggs with house potatoes plus
criolle sausages. This surely can't be what your Mum used to serve when
you came home from school, can it? With Maite behind the range you can
be assured that it won't be! From steaks of beef, pork and chicken with
sauces of pepper, Roquefort, almond or mushrooms to simple griddled fish
or fresh fish of the day with their own sauces of marie rose, cherry tomato
and basil or dill, there's something here to please everyone. Finish off
with a traditional crème caramel or nutmeg custard, a comforting
baked apple with ice cream or profiteroles, yummy sticky tarts or refreshing
fruit sorbets or be really naughty and have an alcoholic one of cava or
vodka. You certainly won't go away hungry.
Then, replete with good food try one of their many great cocktails, milk
shakes or smoothies. Oooh, I wish I were there! Why don't we make a reservation
for tomorrow?
